Now that summer is here and the temperatures are climbing, I wanted to bring a few things to mind about chinchilla and heat. Chinchillas For Sale Tips and Reviews is all about the proper care for your little fur balls and it is important to remember a few things during the hot summer months.

First, when you get hot your body starts sweating to help cool it down. Chinchillas do not sweat. Once it get above 75 degrees a pet chinchilla can quickly show signs of heat distress and die if not caught in time. A couple of these signs are laying stretched out on their sides instead of curled up and reddening of their ears. If you see red ears, your chinchilla is in danger!

“How do I prevent this?” you ask. It is really easy. Just do the same thing you would do for your self. Keep you chinchillas inside in an air-conditioned room. Don’t place the cage in direct sunlight or leave it outside. Make sure plenty of water is available at all times. If it is really hot, try placing a bottle of ice or ice pack inside the cage so your chin can cuddle up next to it.

Keep these things in mind as the summer gets hotter and hotter. And stayed tuned to Chinchillas For Sale Tips and Reviews for all your chinchilla information and products.

Timothy hay

When you bring a chinchilla home you need to have food ready. What do you need? I suggest a pellet diet supplemented with timothy hay. I say go with the pellets because a chinchilla is smart and  will pick out the best bits and leave other important elements of a loose feed out. In addition to this, I suggest adding some timothy hay to its diet as well. In the wild, chinchillas eat desert grasses and it is always best to keep a pet’s diet as close to its natural diet as possible. Kaytee’s formula packs in the nutrients and quality to keep your pet dining happy.

Here is why I would suggest this product on Chinchillas For Sale Tips and Reviews. First, this brand of timothy hay is a natural product and there are no preservatives or additives other brands may include. Second, your chinchilla pet needs a diet low in calcium. This will prevent urinary tract problem, help with digestion, and even help keep its teeth clean. You can give as much hay as your chinchilla likes, but you need to clean out any extra each day and replace it with fresh timothy hay.

As always, I’ve provided a link for this product from Amazon.com. It is a 96 ounce bag at a really good price. You can’t go wrong with this.  More feeding tips to come.       BUY NOW

Two great befits with this wheel. First, it doesn’t make a lot of noise. Second, the flat bottom is perfect for the chinchilla’s little feet.

A common question that is asked when someone is considering a chinchillas as a pet is, “Will my children be able to care for it properly?” The answer is yes, but you will need to keep some things in mind.

Chinchillas are a little more delicate than your typical gerbil or hamster and small children don’t always know their own strength loving it a little too hard. Parents will need to instruct and carefully supervise small children until they understand they are not squeeze toys.

There is a lot of responsibility in owning a chinchilla pet and it is a responsibility a small child can grow into. For example, the feeding duties can slowly be shared with the child at first and slowly turned over as the child learns how much food and treats to give a chinchilla per day. Kids love treats so much they may tend to spoil their little furry pet. While it may be fun to hand feed their chinchilla raisins, this will cause it to become ill. While older children will be able to care for a chinchilla on their own quickly, small children may need to take on the responsibilities of care gradually. The parent can measure out the correct portions of food and the child can place it in the dish inside the cage. As the child watches their mom, dad, or siblings measure the food, they will eventually see what the proper amount is and how often they should feed their chinchilla pets. When they do understand this, then the responsibilities can be completely turned over to them. Remember, chinchillas have a life span of anywhere between 10 to 20 years so a child will have plenty of time to grow into their responsibilities.

Another thing to consider before buying chinchillas for sale is that they are nocturnal animals. This means they will be active during the night time hours. Chinchillas tend to be most active at sunrise and sunset. You may hear some cooing and chirping in the middle of the night, but its not too bad. They will need a quiet area to relax and sleep during the day and they’ll need someone to play with at night. If you are the primary caretaker of your chinchilla and work on the evening shift, then a chinchilla might not be right for you.

Finally, and this is important and I have mentioned it already, chinchillas as pets are a long term commitment. They live on average fifteen years, but they can live much longer. If you are not willing to this don’t bring one home. It is hard for a chinchilla to readjust and bond to a new family. And that is assuming there will be another family to take it home.

Chinchillas are unquestionably cute, but do they make good pets? The answer is a maybe. They do make wonderful pets, but not for everyone. I want to give you some facts about chinchillas as pets before you respond to that chinchillas for sale ad or pick one up from your local chinchilla breeder.

Before you bring a chinchilla home you will need a large spacious cage. A multi-level cage is best. Chinchillas are active little creatures and love to leap up to the ledges included in good chinchilla cages. Inside the cage, you’ll need a few items. As with all animals, you’ll need a water bottle and a food dish. It is best to use a large earthenware bowl. Do not use a plastic bowl which a chinchilla will chew through possibly resulting in health problems. Find a bowl that won’t overturn easily keeping the food dry and clean. You will need a dust bath as will. Chinchillas do not bathe in water. Instead they play in the dust which absorbs the oils in their fur keeping them looking and smelling good. Depending on the size of the cage, the dust bath can be kept inside or outside of the cage. All of these items can be found at pet stores where there are chinchillas for sale or right here on the blog.

No matter how large your cage is, your chinchilla will need time to run and play outside of its cage. However, you will need to be cautious about where you allow the chinchilla to roam in your house. The best idea is to chinchilla-proof a room in your house that you can close off from the rest of your house. What do you need to look for? Remember, chinchilla are chewing machines, so you will want to make sure electrical cords are out of their reach. Plastic items, such as children’s toys, should be removed as well. Make sure there is no food left out – including other pet’s food. Chinchilla diets are very particular but they will still eat just about anything put in front of them if give a chance. As with all pets, and children for that matter, you’ll want to keep dangerous chemicals our our your chinchilla’s reach. It is a good idea to closely supervise your chinchilla while it is out of its cage. This will give you and the chinchilla time to bond as well (More on this later).

Look for part 2 in the next few days. I hope this has given you something to think about before you buy chinchillas for sale

Chinchillas For Sale cannot stress enough that you provide your chinchilla pet with proper nutrition. There are many chinchilla formulas out there but the most important thing to remember is chinchillas are accustomed to eating desert grasses in the wild. It is always best to try to match the natural diet as much as possible. Although you might be tempted to give your chinchilla pet scraps of what you are eating, they simply cannot digest fatty foods. Steer clear of diets at the store that contain a mixture of ingredients, because your chinchilla will pick out the goodies and leave the nutritious high fiber pellets. I will try to post a link to quality chinchilla food on Chinchillas For Sale soon. In short your chinchilla pet will fill up on junk instead of what he needs when given a choice. The problem is that chinchilla pets will eat almost anything if you let them, so you will need to be responsible with what you place before them.

You can provide treats for your chinchilla such as raisins and dried rose hips, however all in moderation especially with fresh fruits and veggies. Try to keep it to about 2-3 treats a day. That means 2-3 raisins a day. Over indulging in treats and foods with high moisture content can cause problems such as diarrhea and bloat. You will be safe with a diet of high fiber pellets and loose timothy hay. Alfalfa is not timothy hay and too much of this high protein grass causes liver problems. Again, check back with Chinchillas For Sale to a link to quality chinchilla food.

Here are the highlights:

  • Chinchillas eat desert grasses in the wild. Try to match that.
  • Do not feed them your food scraps
  • Don’t use mixed feeds.
  • Limit treats to 2-3 a day.
